                                                         _Lo Lieh_

Luo Lieh est né le 25 juillet 1938 en Indonésie. C'est un acteur de Wu-Xia Pian , réalisateur, scénariste, cascadeur et producteur.
Abonné aux rôles de méchant dans les films d'arts martiaux, Lo Lieh est une des personnalités les plus appréciés de Hong-Kong. Extrêmement populaire sous le règne de la Shaw, il est à l'affiche de films aussi cultes que La Main de fer et La 36ème Chambre de Shaolin. Relancé par la Nouvelle vague dans les années 80 (L'Enfer des armes), il est une des figures marquantes de l'ère des frères Shaw.

BIOGRAPHIE :



Né en Indonésie d'une famille chinoise, Lo Lieh arrive à Hong Kong en 1968 et entre à l'école de formation de la "Shaw Brothers" au début des années 60. Il apparait à ses débuts dans un des premiers films de sabre produit par les célèbres studios, Le Temple du Lotus rouge. Mais c'est grâce au cinéaste Chang Cheh qu'il accède à la notoriété, le plus souvent dans des rôles de "bad guy" qui collent à son physique maléfique.

Comme tout bon membre de la Shaw, il fait ses armes en jouant les utilités pour des stars maisons. Il fait ainsi équipe avec Jimmy Wang Yu à la fin des années 60 dans des wu xia pian comme Tiger Boy, Le trio magnifique ou Le retour de l'hirondelle d'or. Comprenant très vite son potentiel de méchant, Wang Yu l'embauche pour sa première réalisation, La Vengeance du tigre.
Commence alors une carrière de personnage hyper-populaire auprès du public local. Acteur fétiche de Liu Chia-liang, il est tour à tour, emprereur mandchou sanguinaire dans La 36ème Chambre de Shaolin (1978), prêtre renégat dans Les Exécuteurs de Shaolin (1977) ou en prince sadique dans 14 Amazones.

Parenthèse dans sa filmographie, et sans doute sa participation la plus connue, il est la (gentille) tête d'affiche du cultissime film de Chung Chang-Wha, La Main de fer, un des premiers films de kung-fu à connaître un succès international. A la fin des années 70, son professionalimse hors pair et sa capacité à faranchir les genres en font un collaborateur régulier de Chu Yuan dans ses adaptations du romancier Gu Long (Le Tigre de Jade et Les Griffes de Jade. Il participe également à d'autres productions de genre comme le "rape and revenge" à la sauce soja Kiss of Death ou le western spaghetti La Brute, le colt et le karaté (1975).
Un peu plus en retrait dans les années 80 avec le déclin de la Shaw, il apparaît régulièrement dans les productions estampillés Nouvelle vague hongkongaise. Tsui Hark lui rend un bel hommage en lui offrant le rôle du flic paumé de L'enfer des armes (1980). Ann Hui lui permet quant à elle de changer de registre avec Story of Woo Viet.

La fatigue aidant, il se fait plus discret mais bénéficie de son aura de "kung-fu hero" et revient épisodiquement au cinéma dans les années 90, soit en compagnon de Jackie Chan (Big Brother, 1989) ou dans des productions de prestige (Le parrain de hong-kong). Il meurt le 2 Novembre 2002 dans sa retraite du Guangzhou, en Chine.
